Itinerary

DAY 1:     ARRIVAL - NAIROBI

Upon your arrival at The Jomo Kenyatta international Airport, you will be met by our representative for a warm welcome and a short briefing. You will then be transferred to your Hotel. Overnight at Nairobi Serena Hotel, booked on Bed and Breakfast basis.

DAY 2: NAIROBI – SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE

After breakfast you will depart north via Nanyuki and Mt Kenya for the Samburu Game Reserve set in the rugged semi-arid northern region with spectacular scenic landscape.

Arrival in time for lunch at your lodge, short siesta then head for an afternoon game viewing drive.

The water of the great Ewaso Nyiro River, dotted with doum palms meanders through the reserve giving it an oasis setting and draws wildlife in great numbers to its banks. The verdant riverine forest is a stark contrast to the arid thorn studded plains. Samburu is visited by large herds of Elephants, drawn by the promise of water. In the dry season, the elephants use their tusks to dig deep into the dry river beds, unearthing precious water. These waterholes then become a focal point for other game. The Samburu region is the best place to find several endemic Northern species; including the Gerenuk (twiga gazelle) due to her long neck, the Beisa Oryx, the Reticulated Giraffe, the Somali ostrich and Gravy’s Zebra. Samburu is also an ornithological paradise, home to many birds including local species such as the Palm Nut Vulture and the Vinaceous Dove. Leopards are often seen at dusk. The Samburu culture is a truly fascinating one, sharing a great deal of ancestral and linguistic ties to the Maasai. The entire Samburu region is a place of breath taking and magical beauty, a place where the vision of a deep red sunset silhouetting the doum palms along the river as a leopard emerges to hunt brings the perfect end to a day on safari.

Dinner and overnight at Larsens Camp.

DAY 3: SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE

After an early breakfast at the lodge, enjoy a full day of game viewing drives in both Buffalo Springs and the nearby Samburu Game Reserves. The verdant riverine forest along the Ewaso Nyiro River is a stark contrast to the arid thorn studded plains. Packs of African Hunting Dogs are some of the animals you may see during your game viewing. Our driver guide will carefully select an amazing picnic site with a great scenic view where you will take your picnic lunches before venturing into the bush once again! Be on the look-out for the 'special five of Samburu', other wildlife and a large number of bird species.

Return to Larsens Camp for dinner and overnight.

DAY 4: SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE - OL PEJETA CONSRVANCY

Breakfast at the camp then drive to Ol pejeta Conservancy.

Ol Pejeta Conservancy – a 90,000-acre private wildlife conservancy – is situated on the equator, in Kenya's Laikipia District, between the foot hills of the Aberdares and the magnificent snow-capped Mount Kenya.

Ol Pejeta Conservancy boasts an astounding variety of animals, including the Big Five (the endangered black and white rhino, leopard, elephant, buffalo and lion), Grevy’s zebra, Jackson’s hartebeest, cheetah and chimpanzee. The combination of amazing wildlife and stunning views across the open plains of Ol Pejeta guarantees an unforgettable safari experience.

You will arrive in time for lunch at Sweet Waters Serena Camp then spend the early afternoon at leisure before heading for the afternoon game drive in the conservancy. Return to Sweet Waters Serena camp for dinner and overnight.

DAY 5:OL PEJETA CONSRVANCY

After breakfast you will drive to the Chimpanzees Sanctuary.

The Sanctuary is the only place in Kenya where this highly endangered and remarkably intelligent species can be seen!

Visitors to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy have free access to the Sanctuary, which is open daily at 9:00am to 10:30am and 3pm to 4:30pm.

The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary opened in 1993 in a negotiated agreement between the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Jane Goodall Institute. The facility was initially established to receive and provide lifelong refuge to orphaned and abused chimpanzees (Pan Troglodytes) from West and Central Africa. An initial group of three chimpanzee orphans were brought to the sanctuary from a facility in Bujumbura, Burundi in 1993. This group of chimpanzees needed to be evacuated due to the outbreak of civil war in Burundi. This was followed in 1995 by another group of 9 adult chimpanzees, followed by another 10 in 1996.

You will then visit the rhino sanctuary, Ol Pejeta is home to three of the world’s last remaining three northern white rhinos, and a sanctuary for 113 critically endangered black rhinos.

You will then return to the camp for lunch and a rest. Later you will enjoy an evening game drive then return to the camp for dinner and overnight.

Over four hundred species of birds have been sighted at the park and it goes without saying that this is a bird watchers paradise.
